Description: Das Projekt "Study on the Altitudinal Gradient of the UV-B Tolerance in some Andine Plant Species" wird/wurde gefördert durch: Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung. Es wird/wurde ausgeführt durch: Universität Trier, Lehrstuhl für Geobotanik.In the proposed project the natural gradient of UV-B tolerance in populations of different plant species growing in various altitudes in the Argentine Andes will be studied by analysing the UV-B absorption of these plants. To identify if adaption of Andine plant species to the reduction of stratospheric ozon has already ocurred in the past decades, plant material from the herbarium will be tested. The UV-B absorption of plant species being present in both vegetation regions- the Province Mendoza and Germany- will be compared to show differences in the absorption properties of plant species of the Southern and Northern hemisphere as a result of selection/adaption to a different UV-B-background.
