Biotechnological production of TAGs from wood polymers by microbial fermentations

Description: The aim of the project will be the conversion of desired renewable resources that are of interest for NesteOil into triacylglycerols (TAGs). This should be achieved by microbial fermentation. Bacterial strains suitable for this purpose will be isolated from natural habitats and will be in parallel also obtained by engineering of already existing bacterial strains. The desired carbon-chain-length of the fatty acids linked to glycerol will be C16 and C18. The content of TAGs in the cell dry matter should be 50 to 60% (wt/wt) at the minimum. These TAGs and derivatives of it will be used by NesteOil as 'biofuel'.
