Description: Das Projekt "Shifts in Weather Incidents Threatening reliability of the electricity distribution and transmission /economic performance due to climate CHange & Opportunities For Foresight planning" wird/wurde gefördert durch: Klima- und Energiefonds (KLI.EN). Es wird/wurde ausgeführt durch: Universität für Bodenkultur Wien, Institut für Meteorologie.SWITCH-OFF brings together T/DSOs with climate change impact/adaptation and energy economics expertise: Based on e-grid damage data, we will match/classify met. damages and model future exceedance probabilities for pertinent met. thresholds. Economic models will assess indirect costs of outages/black-outs at NUTS-1/2 and thus vulnerable hot spots in the grid. Along with climate risk maps 2030/2050 for e.g. wet snow depos-its/lightning/severe storm/heavy precipitation, we establish a sound starting point for strategies to secure electricity supply under a changing climate. The goal of SWITCH-OFF is to help maintaining the electricity supply in despite an increasing trend of damaging meteorological events with climate change and thus help avoiding grave economic damages from outages and blackouts. We will achieve this goal by working in partnership with transport- and distribution service operators (T/DSOs) and use their damage data system/electric grid layers as well as the expertise of the consortium in identifying both economically sensitive parts of the electricity grid and prospective regional hotspots of damaging meteorological extremes.
