Description: The main objective of this proposal is the development of cost-effective technologies for the manufacturing of photovoltaic cells based on thin (below 200micrometer) conventionally cast multicrystalline silicon wafers and EFG sheets. To achieve this objective, a consortium has been formed to develop innovative cell structures and fast ( groesser 1dm(2) /3sec) low-stress manufacturing technologies suitable for processing thin wafers with high yield. The foreseen efficiency goals of 15.5 and 16.5 Prozent for respectively thin EFG cells and thin multicrystalline cells are a real milestone on the path to cost efficient PV. This will result in a very strong reduction of expensive silicon consumption below 4 (EFG) and 7(multi-Si) gr Si/Wp (10-12 gr Si/Wp for state-of-the-art) . A cost assessment twill be made for the developed innovative approach to verify the assumptions outlined in Music FM (CT94 0008) for module cost reductions below 1 Euro/Wp.
