Description: Modification of transcription is the molecular basis of all potential acclimation to environmental change. A knowledge of differences in patterns of gene expression between stressed and unstressed organisms will allow us to better understand their genomic plasticity and capacity to adapt. Changes in transcriptomes are also a very early indication of changing ecological functionality of a species and of its feedback effect on the environment. We therefore propose to develop an oligo microarray for the investigation of differences in gene expression among individuals of Fucus vesiculosus, an important habitat-forming alga ( leverage species ) that is widely distributed in the upper littoral of the North Atlantic.
