Geothermie für die Wärmewende: Flankierung des Rollouts der Mitteltiefen Geothermie in Deutschland

Description: Die aktuelle geopolitische Lage verschärft die Notwendigkeit, den Ausstieg aus der Nutzung fossiler Energien und den Ausbau der erneuerbaren Energien, somit auch die Geothermie, schnellstmöglich umzusetzen. Um die hohen Anfangsinvestitionen in der tiefen Geothermie abzufedern und die Investitionsbereitschaft bei Kommunen und Betrieben zu erhöhen, ist eine Explorationskampagne erforderlich. Für eine zielorientierte, die Wirtschaft stimulierende Explorationskampagne wird ein wissenschaftlich valides Begleitprogramm durchgeführt. Dies beinhaltet sowohl die Herleitung von Kriterien für die Auswahl von Explorationsmaßnahmen, als auch die Ermittlung beispielhafter Explorationsstandorte. Unter der Überschrift 'Vom Potenzial zum Projekt' sollen gut explorierte Geothermiestandorte unter den aktuellen Rahmenbedingungen neu bewertet werden. Diese Standorte werden nach geologischen, technischen, wirtschaftlichen und gesellschaftlichen Kriterien sowie unter Berücksichtigung sich verbessernder Rahmenbedingungen untersucht. In Zusammenarbeit mit den Akteuren sollen an den Standorten optimale Erschließungs- und Nutzungskonzepte entwickelt, deren ökonomische Folgewirkungen beurteilt sowie ein Akzeptanzgewinn erreicht werden. Die Projektbetreiber sollen so befähigt werden, die praktische Umsetzung von Geothermievorhaben an diesen Standorten einzuleiten. Mittels integrierter Reservoircharakterisierung soll ferner die Fündigkeit an ausgewählten Geothermieprojekten bestmöglich beurteilt und methodisch aufgezeigt werden, ob bzw. wie sich die Ergebnisse von diesen Projekten auf derzeit noch unterexplorierte Lokationen übertragen lassen. Die Ergebnisse werden in einem Konzept für eine integrierte Reservoirbewertung für die hydrothermale Geothermie zusammengefasst und dienen gleichzeitig als Grundlage für die methodische Weiterentwicklung von Fündigkeitsgutachten.

  Title: Geothermal Energy for the Heat Turnaround: Accompanying the rollout of medium-depth geothermal energy in Germany
  Description: The current geopolitical situation intensifies the need to phase out the use of fossil fuels and expand renewable energies, including geothermal energy, as quickly as possible. An exploration campaign is needed to cushion the high initial investment in deep geothermal energy and to increase the willingness of municipalities and businesses to invest. For a goal-oriented exploration campaign that stimulates the economy, a scientifically valid accompanying program will be carried out. This includes both the derivation of criteria for the selection of exploration measures and the identification of exemplary exploration sites. Under the heading 'From Potential to Project', well explored geothermal sites will be re-evaluated under the current framework conditions. These sites will be investigated according to geological, technical, economic and social criteria, as well as taking into account improving framework conditions. In cooperation with the stakeholders, optimal development and utilization concepts are to be developed at the sites, their economic consequences are to be assessed, and a gain in acceptance is to be achieved. The project operators shall be enabled to initiate the practical implementation of geothermal projects at these sites. By means of integrated reservoir characterization, the discoverability of selected geothermal projects will be evaluated in the best possible way and it will be methodically shown whether and how the results of these projects can be transferred to locations that are currently still under-explored.
