Description: The major goal is the development of novel sorption systems for air-conditioning of buildings. These systems shall also be applicable to industrial energy management. By employing cascading sorption systems, coefficients of performance (for air-conditioning) of greater than 1,2 shall be achieved. Individual tasks are: determination of heat and cold demand for buildings; evaluation of existing or to be developed sorption systems; development and use of thermodynamic (entropic, exergetic) analysis; selection and detailed planning of one solid sorption ammonia salt STELF system by Electrolux, one large cascading prototype (ammonia salt and lithium bromide water) by CNRS-IMP and ZAE, and two small prototypes by CNAM (silicagel water) and IKE (metal hydride); investigation of specific materials problems; investigation of specific technological problems (gas burner, heat exchangers, heat pipes); development, construction and test of the prototypes; application of the design methodology and of the results developed/obtained for air-conditioning in buildings to energy management of industrial processes; case study for industrial application.
