IS-IMPACT 2, Interactive multimedia product for diffusion of energy concepts

Description: Objective: DYNE is aimed at providing science museums with an interactive multimedia product capable of introducing, diffusing and increasing knowledge of basic principles, concepts and applications of energy in a friendly and attractive way. The main topics to be included are: the physical concepts (kinetic and potential energy, work and power, laws of thermodynamics, energy conservation, reversible and irreversible transformations); energy sources (renewable and non-renewable sources, distribution of energy sources in Europe); energy transformation (wind and watermills, steam and internal combustion engines, turbines, nuclear reactors and plants, fuel cells, photovoltaic); environment (impact of energy, stray energy, effluents from power plants, radioactive pollution, energy saving approach). General Information: The information will be supplied using texts, pictures, sound, animated sequences and short movies. All the topics will be accessible through an user-friendly navigation tool. The feasibility of a CD-I technology solution will be explored, in order to address the widest possible potential market, thanks to its low price and user friendliness. Together with the implementation of the specific product, a complete IMM production environment is expected to be developed, with consolidated procedures and tools for all the different phases (system architecture definition, application design, multimedia data acquisition and storage, interactive software development and testing, marketing and distribution of products). Both methodological and technological achievements of DYNE will be further exploited in other similar sectors, such as education and publishing.
