Description: Das Projekt "Bericht zur Umweltschutzleistung im Kontext von EMAS" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Universität Trier, European Association for Environmental Management Education - Focal Point Trier -, Europäisches Diplom in Umweltwissenschaften durchgeführt. Environmental reporting has become a crucial lever for company's change in the direction of improved environmental performance. The quality of reporting is largely dependent on the fulfilling of stakeholder needs. The main question which arises is how the current state-of-the-art in environmental reporting responds to these needs. The study focuses on the EMAS Environmental Statement as a standardised approach in environmental reporting. It responds to the question, how Article 5 of the EMAS Regulation has to be optimized in order to guide companies on a better way to communicate environmental performance with its stakeholders. In that respect, the relative importance of different stakeholders is evaluated. The findings of a quantitative and a qualitative analysis of a representative number of validated environmental statements determine the need for improvement. In addition, best practice examples serve as a basis for recommendations on the optimization of Article 5 of the EMAS Regulation.
