Description: The growing awareness of the problem of climate change has shifted the energy concerns from security of supply to efficiency and utilisation of environmentally friendly options. The energy measures adopted in recent years by the EU comply with this movement. This project aims at proposing mechanisms for the promotion of renewable sources of energy. An overview of EU legal framework on energy and environment in addition to an evaluation of the economic and policy measures followed by a similar profile for the UK and the Netherlands are expected to provide the basis for a comparative analysis of the situation in the two countries. An assessment of the implementation of the EU measures transposed in the national legal framework is considered equally significant. These and an evaluation of the efficiency of the instruments applied in the UK and the Netherlands, in general and specifically for wind energy, are expected to provide the background for proposing solutions for the promotion of renewable sources of energy.
