ERA-NET Wood Wisdom: Silent Timber Buildings for the European market (Silent Timber Build)

Description: Das Projekt "ERA-NET Wood Wisdom: Silent Timber Buildings for the European market (Silent Timber Build)" wird/wurde gefördert durch: Bundesministerium für Land- und Forstwirtschaft, Umwelt und Wasserwirtschaft Österreich. Es wird/wurde ausgeführt durch: Technische Universität Graz, Institut für Hochbau.Since the 1990s, wood as a renewable resource has increasingly been used in Europe as a building material also for multi-story buildings. In the various regions of Europe, numerous different constructional components and building systems have been developed and varied, and new combinations have been developed over and over again. Nearly every new building is a proto-type, which is made possible by the wide variety of possible combinations of materials and connections. In addition, new 'engineered wood products' like Cross Laminated Timber, Kielsteg, board-stack based component building, Hybrid-Constructions etc. have been developed and launched in recent decades, which in turn opens up many new possibilities, and on the other hand increases the possible varieties further. The consequence of this diversity is that the characteristic values for the constructions have to be recalculated and measured again and again, and that although individual databases with characteristic values are present, they often contain only interpolated or estimated characteristic values due to the large number of variations. Detailed data, as for the noise protection e.g. are only very rarely accessible, as in practice every developer sees 'his' data as a competitive ad-vantage and thus does not make it publicly available. In contrast to construction methods made of solid construction materials such as reinforced concrete, however, there are no standardized calculation models for noise protection existed in the past. In the course of this project, the first approaches for the calculation of the acoustic behavior of wooden structures were implemented in the new designs of the European series 12354 which has now been adopted internationally also by ISO as ISO 12354 . However, a reliable, reproducible sound-proof design is essential for a further market spread and economic planning and production of sustainable timber construction methods, as well as a reliable data base. To achieve this, it is first necessary to group the diversity of European wood based systems, constructions and structures. As a result, common design algorithms and models can be developed for a reasoned estimation of the sound insulation performance of buildings and subsequent construction systems. Within the framework of this research project, calculation methods for the acoustic behavior of wood structures are investigated and further developed, with the aim of making the frequency-dependent behavior of the components easier analyzable and improving future prognosis methods for the sound insulation of wooden components.
