Economical, Technical and Ecological Utilisation of Treated Steel Slag in Cilvil Engineering of High Quality Demands

Description: The target of this R and D project is to increase the amount of steel slags used for road construction and hydraulic engineering with high economical increment-value. To achieve these aims the steel slags have to be treated.Treated steel slags are artificial aggregates of high quality and volume stability. Slags can be treated successfully by injection of oxygen and quartz sand. Re-placing quartz sand by residues the treatment can be realised cost effectively. By-products from the steel industries will be used as well as for example glass cullets from the automotive industries. The innovative aspects of high quality aggregates producted from treated steel slags will be demonstrated in asphaltic layers in road construction, in waterway construction and in concrete ware. An other aspect of the project is the developement of materials for the filling of mining shafts and sealing of dumps by combination of different residues from the steel industries.
