Description: Description of the project:The data will comprise geothermal borehole measurements in the CSDP-drill-hole and laboratory measurements of thermal properties, using the optical method, as well as of supplementary petrophysical properties on core samples. The data will be interpreted with special regard to the shock effects of the asteroid impact 65 mill. years ago. Petrophysical logs will give information about in situ thermal conductivity and diffusivity. Possible hydraulic effects in the measured temperature profile will be simulated by thermo-hydraulic model calculations.Special current investigations1. Investigations of the geothermal regime of the impact structure (Karlsruhe University)2. Petrophysical measurements on core samplesPetrophysical measurements were made on rock samples from the depth interval 404 - 1510 meters of the borehole YAX-1, representing post impact Limestones, rocks of the impact range, Calcarenite, Dolomite and low porosity Anhydrite2.1 Thermophysical measurements (Moscow State Geological Prospecting University)Thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity and heat capacity including thermal anisotropy were determined by non-destructive, non-contact optical scanning technology on 450 dry and water-saturated cores (half cores with length of 6 cm, average sample interval 2 m).2.2 Supplementary petrophysical measurements and interpretations (TU Berlin)Acoustic velocities (VP, VS) , electrical resistivity, formation factor, internal surface NMR-T2 relaxation time and hydraulic permeability have been measured on a representative selection of approx. 20% from the total 450 samples. Velocities were determined under vacuum dry and water-saturated conditions in the ultrasonic frequency range under ambient pressure and temperature.Biot-Gassmann-Murphy calculations (Mayr and Burkhardt, 2005) are carried out to estimate the influence of global and local fluid flow on velocities. Petrophysical modelling and empirical correlations yield detailed physical property logs as input for the interpretation of various geophysical data.
