Description: The choise of strategy and technology for municipal or industrial waste water management is influenced by the type of settlement, the actual stand of treatment technology, the types of industry and the financial and technology resources. Depending on the above aspects, the following items have an impact on the management and technology strategy: Waste water collection system, treatment requirements, treatment technology, municipal/industrial waste water ratio, specificity of the industrial waste water, end of pipe solutions vs clean technologies, sludge handling, operational and investment costs, energy, organization structure, environmental impact, least cost production. Based on this sub-directions the project aims to find the optimal strategy in the development of waste water systems in Bulgaria. Besides the classical processes of municipal waste water treatment, the possibilities of chemical, biological/chemical without N-removal and biological/chemical with N-removal will be assessed. From the beginning it should be also tried to avoid waste water in the industries (clean production).
