Description: Das Projekt "An Evaluation of the Needs for State Aid to the Coal Industry Post 2010" wird/wurde gefördert durch: Kommission der Europäischen Gemeinschaften Brüssel. Es wird/wurde ausgeführt durch: Rheinisch-Westfälisches Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung e.V. RWI, Kompetenzbereich Umwelt und Ressourcen.This research project addresses the issue of hard-coal subsidization in the years following 2010 once the present coal regulation (1407/2002) will have expired. The study should inform whether and to what extent the general State aid regime will be able to address outstanding need in the hard-coal industry. It will evaluate different possibilities the general State aid rules offer for supporting the coal sector after 2010. The study will also try to give information about the cost structure of coal production and on coal pricing and assist the Commission in their decision-making process.
