Description: Objective: Development of a Guaranteed Solar Result (GSR) procedure for solar hot water system performance to provide the customer with information of the expected system gain. It should be applicable for: manufacturers, designers, planners, distributors and test laboratories. Development of a procedure for checking GSR on the basis of INSITU measurements. It should be applicable for: planners, test institutions and installers. The purpose is to establish guidelines for both procedures. Demands for the acceptance of the procedure are: transparency to the customer, applicability for all climatic zones, transferability to arbitrary working conditions, high accuracy, i.e. error smaller than 5 per cent, possibility for the check of guaranteed yield of a particular system with INSITU test. General Information: The general idea for a GSR procedure is to predict the energy gain under reference conditions. Physical properties (thereafter referred to as parameters) of a Solar Hot Water (SHW) system are determined by the use of a universal test method. Neither the method nor the calculated parameters depend on the conditions during the test. In order to compare the performance of the particular system with the predicted performance or with the performance of other defined systems, the operation is simulated under reference conditions and the energy gain thereafter calculated. This procedure can be applied both, for the prediction of the energy gain before installation and the check after installation. For the check of a predicted energy gain a method for short-term INSITU testing must be available. In principle, steady state or quasi steady state methods can be applied only to small systems. But since they require particular test conditions, the test duration is lengthy. In practice, it is almost impossible to have these conditions. By the dynamic test method the parameters are identified in short term tests under realistic conditions.
