Description: Das Projekt "Legal Means for the Protection of Natural Habitats of Animals and Plants in Selected European Legislations, Comparison of the Substantive and Procedural Reglementations and Control Mechanisms" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Universität Basel, Juristische Fakultät, Institut für Rechtswissenschaft durchgeführt. One reason for the decline of biodiversity is the degradation of natural habitats by anthropogenic influences. The study describes national legal instruments aimed at the conservation of these habitats. The legislations of three European countries (Switzerland, Germany, Austria) are analysed. In order to compare the different concepts and to describe successful strategies. Leading Questions: Which are the legal instruments for the conversation of natural habitats in Switzerland, Germany, Austria? What is actually/could, should be the function of natural sciences in legislation and implementation concerning conservation of natural habitats/biodiversity? Is there an evolution of these instruments to be observed in the three countries (e.g. from defensive protection to integrated conervation)? Are the implementation problems due to lack of legislation or to difficulties of implementation?
