  Description: The size of herring stocks in the North Sea are assessed annually by means of hydro acoustic surveys. The surveys are carried out in close international cooperation, between Scotland, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands and Germany. During the surveys the size of herring and sprat schools are recorded hydro acoustically. By means of integration a biomass is then calculated.
