Description: Das Projekt "Hypolimnetic Al- and CaCO3-application for restoration of a stratified eutrophic hardwater lake (lake Tiefwarensee, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany)" wird/wurde ausgeführt durch: Forschungsverbund Berlin, Leibniz-Institut für Gewässerökologie und Binnenfischerei.Hypolimnetic Al- and CaCO3-treatments, combined with deep-water aeration and trophic state oriented fishery management, have been tested for lake restoration in a dimictic lake. From 2001 to 2003 approximately 100 g Al3+ m-2 sediment surface as Na-aluminate and 115 g Ca2+ m-2 in form of suspended Ca(OH)2 were added to the hypolimnion by deep-water aeration technology, during two or three cycles per year, each lasting about one month. Resulting from the formation of a new sediment boundary layer with a high P-binding capacity, the P-flux from sediments to water was significantly reduced. The hypo- and epilimnetic P-concentrations continuously decreased by more than 80 percent. The trophic conditions shifted from a highly eutrophic to mesotrophic state.
