Title: Innovation process for the development of an online platform that digitizes and simplifies the interface between food-producing companies from industry and commerce to the national association of food banks in Germany, Tafel Deutschland; Subproject 3 (eco-Plattform)
Description: In an innovative process, Tafel Deutschland is working with project partners to develop a digital eco-platform that will be tested in a pilot region with local Tafel food banks and pantries, grocery retailers and food producers. The digitized food distribution process should make it easier to collect data on supply and demand, thus creating the basis for a more efficient allocation of in-kind donations; the optimized processes can save even more food. In particular, the following objectives are to be pursued: - Improvement of the area coverage and needs-based redistribution of goods to and among the Tafel food banks and pantries. - Increase the amount of food saved by the Tafel in Germany by up to 40%. - Saving time and costs by reducing transport distances and empty runs by at least 5% - Identify and attract new donor companies by providing better information on the needs of the Tafel; a more targeted acquisition of companies that donate large quantities of surplus food (manufacturers). - Maintaining the existing relationships with food donors; companies are guaranteed a timely pickup of the donation because the Tafel food banks and pantries will be better able to plan their needs and coordinate amongst themselves. - Increasing the transparency and availability of data on food rescue by the Tafel in Germany (quantities, categories, ways of distribution, donors, trends) - Simplify the processes of receiving food by the Tafel and the delivery of food by retailers/ producers to the Tafel work packages (WP) WP 1 project management (control, monitoring, reporting) 1.1.
