Description: Das Projekt "EURE utility wind farm project" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von RWE Energie AG durchgeführt. General Information/Objectives: In 1994 EURE members proposed the idea of a big European wind farm with the overall objective to prove the concept of large wind farms for utility application. The project is to carry out the necessary Feasibility Study for a wind farm of approximately 100 MW. The immediate goals of the study are to show: 1. The technical viability of a large scale wind farm, based on megawatt-class wind turbines (i.e., in the range of 750 kW to 2 MW) 2. The quantification of the commercial risk of such a large utility wind farm 3. The clarification of legal, regulatory, partnership and logistic issues, in preparation for the eventual construction and operation of the wind farm by the EURE partners 4. The identification of those wind turbine models most appropriate for use on a large utility wind farm (This study will consider all necessary aspects, such as questions of performance, reliability, electrical impact on the supply grid etc.) 5. The selection of the promising site(s) (Up to three sites may be needed for the total output of about 100 MW) 6. The conduct of a required survey of the wind farm's expected social and environmental impact Technical Approach The completion of these goals will result in an advanced, but preliminary design of the wind farm(s), together with the development of an appropriate project management structure for construction. Assuming the conclusion of the feasibility study is favourable, a proposal could then be put to the Commission for the construction and operation of the wind farm. The following 14 European utilities and EURE members representing 10 countries decided to join the study that is coordinated by RWE Energie: Electrabel Belgium Electricidade de Portugal Electricite de France Elkraft Power Company Denmark ENEL Italy EVS Germany Iberdrola Spain Imatran Voima Oy Finland National Wind Power Great Britain PowerGen Great Britain Public Power Corporation Greece RWE Energie Germany Compania Sevillana Spain Union Electrica Fenosa Spain With this project the participating European utilities show their continuing commitment to the development of feasible options for renewable power generation. Exploitation The results of the project will be very important for the utilities, and other potential investors in wind energy equipments, on a local and even regional basis. The manufacturers will have also clear information about the needs of the users. A dissemination of this information will be so ensured to these energy actors. Prime Contractor: RWE Energie AG, Regenerative Stromerzeugungsanlagen; Essen; Germany.
