Description: 'The aim of the projekt is to develop decision support systems (DSS) for the admission of pesticides at different scales, ie local, regional, national and European scale. On the basis of (expected) use, basis pesticide parameters and geographic information (on soils, climate, ect ) predictions will be made on environmental cocentrations (exposure) and their expected effects on ecosystems and public health (hazard and risk assessment). The DSS can be used at different political levels (local, national and international) to decide on the admissability of pesticides'. Additionally the system shoeld be able to indentify vulnerable regions with respect to groundwater contamination, permeable soils and areas at high ecological risk. The output are thematic maps concerning the environmental distribution of risk factors and health outcomes. Apart from the political scales geo-regions as well as agricultural regions have to be considered. The linkage between the different scales has to be such that the information of a scale can be integrated in the next larger scale. For each of the scales data have to be collected, and different mathematical models have to be developed and/or calibrated and/or validated. Geopraphical information systems (GIG, basis. Arc-INFO) are used to manage databases and to develop spatial models as well an to produce the thematic maps.
