Following the fate of combustion residues in soil

Description: The term black carbon (BC) is a general one applied to various carbonaceous products of incomplete combustion and includes chars, charcoals and soots. BC is ubiquitous in the environment, including in aerosols, sediments and soils. The project has two goals: First, methodological improvement of existing molecular marker methods and a systematic comparative analysis with newly established reference BC-materials. Second, to assess BC degradation and transport in colomn experiments using isotopically labelled charred material.
