Ecosystem Accounts - Methods of the Ecosystem Extent Account

Description: This paper gives a short overview of the main objectives, the structure and the technical challenges in building a nationwide extent account. We aim to lay out and discuss general guidelines for each step, including a thorough description of semiautomated data handling and geo-data processing that facilitate the integration of future data, updates and revisions. The new ecosystem extent account for Germany, set up by the German Federal Statistical Office, is used as an example. Finally, we discuss which aspects of the SEEA EA framework have been helpful and which areas need more effective guidance to set up the extent account on a national level.
