Bathing Water Directive - Status of bathing water

The EU Bathing Waters Directive requires Member States to identify popular bathing places in fresh and coastal waters and monitor them for indicators of microbiological pollution (and other substances) throughout the bathing season which runs from May to September

Waterbase - Water Quantity

Waterbase is the generic name given to the EEA's databases on the status and quality of Europe's rivers, lakes, groundwater bodies and transitional, coastal and marine waters, on the quantity of Europe's water resources, and on the emissions to surface waters from point and diffuse sources of pollution.

Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive, Waterbase reported under UWWTD data call 2016 (Tabular data)

Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive concerns the collection, treatment and discharge of urban waste water and the treatment and discharge of waste water from certain industrial sectors. The objective of the Directive is to protect the environment from the adverse effects of the above mentioned waste water discharges. The dataset contains data selected from the reporting of Member States as part of the UWWTD implementation. The dataset is divided into tables on: reported period, receiving areas, agglomerations, urban waste water treatment plants (UWWTPs), links agglomerations – UWWTPs, discharge points, and (at Member State level) sludge handling and treated waste water re-use. 3 codelist tables (big cities, NUTS, common list of values) and 3 add-on tables (for agglomerations, UWWTPs and MSLevel) are included as well.

European Red List of Habitats - enhanced by EEA, May 2022

The European Red List of Habitats provides an assessment of the risk of collapse of marine, terrestrial and freshwater natural and semi-natural habitats based on a consistent set of criteria and categories and detailed data and expertise. The geographical coverage is the European Union and adjacent regions. The European Red List of Habitats project was funded by the European Commission. Subsequent projects carried out by the European Environment Agency (EEA) and European Red List habitats project coordinators further refined the codes and names and enhanced crosslinks to other habitat typologies.

WISE Water Accounts database for Europe, 1990-2015 (Vector data)

The WISE Water Accounts database contains monthly water accounts for the years 1990-2015 for 117 European river basins extracted from the ECRINS functional river basin districts. This resource contains the spatial vector data related to the water accounts tabular data. The water accounts tabular data can be accessed here: https://sdi.eea.europa.eu/catalogue/srv/eng/catalog.search#/metadata/73f4f0ae-aa2c-49fd-9fc4-9feb4792e646 Extensive clarifications on the development of the European water accounts can be found in the following reports published by the European Commission (DG ENV): "Guidance document on the application of water balances for supporting the implementation of the Water Framework Directive" (http://ec.europa.eu/environment/water/blueprint/balances.htm) and "Water ecosystem accounts reports" (http://ec.europa.eu/environment/water/blueprint/balances.htm)

WISE Water Accounts for Europe

The WISE Water Accounts database contains 1) monthly water accounts for the years 1990-2015 for 117 European river basins extracted from the ECRINS functional river basin districts. The WISE Water Accounts database holds also 2) The Water Accounts Spatial Units dataset which is an extraction of the European catchments and Rivers network system (ECRINS), aggregation catchments and reference layers. It contains 117 river basins extracted from the ECRINS functional river basin districts (EcrAgg). The Ecrins river basin districts are delineated according to the hydrological thresholds and do not necessarily follow administrative boundaries. The main purpose of the data set is to display the EEA water accounts outputs at the river basin level.

The WISE Water Accounts database contains monthly water accounts for the years 1990-2015 for 117 European river basins extracted from the ECRINS functional river basin districts. The water accounts data can be downloaded in two different formats: a spreadsheet that contains each accounting variable in a separate worksheet, and a database that contains all the variables of the asset and flow accounts to facilitate an integrated analysis. The spatial data related with the water accounts can be accessed here: https://sdi.eea.europa.eu/catalogue/srv/eng/catalog.search#/metadata/4d6ec890-a570-446e-bc1b-c31fe0eaba71
