The Directive relating to the assessment and management of environmental noise (the Environmental Noise Directive – END, 2002/49/EC) is the main EU instrument to identify noise pollution levels and to trigger the necessary action both at Member State and at EU level. Data submitted by EEA member countries until 16/04/2024. This database contains information on the number of people exposed to 5 decibel (dB) bands for two indicators "Lden : 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, >75" and "Lnight. : 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, > 70". Additional noise bands below these reporting thresholds are provided by some countries on a voluntary basis . The database covers the noise sources specified in the END (major roads, major railways, major airports and urban agglomerations) and the corresponding number of people exposed to each of the noise sources inside urban areas and outside urban areas. Percentage of people exposed has also been calculated for comparative purposes. The reporting requirements were set to start as from 2005, and the reporting cycle specified in the END is 5 years, with the exposure data submitted in 2007, 2012, 2017 and 2022.

The datasets includes 1) the noise exposure data, 2) the noise contours data, 3) razterized noise contours data and 4) potential quiet areas all under the terms of the Environmental Noise Directive (END). Data covers the EEA32 member countries and the United Kingdom (excluding Turkey for the third round of noise mapping in 2017).

The WISE Water Accounts database contains monthly water accounts for the years 1990-2015 for 117 European river basins extracted from the ECRINS functional river basin districts. The water accounts data can be downloaded in two different formats: a spreadsheet that contains each accounting variable in a separate worksheet, and a database that contains all the variables of the asset and flow accounts to facilitate an integrated analysis. The spatial data related with the water accounts can be accessed here: https://sdi.eea.europa.eu/catalogue/srv/eng/catalog.search#/metadata/4d6ec890-a570-446e-bc1b-c31fe0eaba71

Waterbase is the generic name given to the EEA's databases on the status and quality of Europe's rivers, lakes, groundwater bodies and transitional, coastal and marine waters, on the quantity of Europe's water resources, and on the emissions to surface waters from point and diffuse sources of pollution.
The WISE Water Accounts database contains 1) monthly water accounts for the years 1990-2015 for 117 European river basins extracted from the ECRINS functional river basin districts. The WISE Water Accounts database holds also 2) The Water Accounts Spatial Units dataset which is an extraction of the European catchments and Rivers network system (ECRINS), aggregation catchments and reference layers. It contains 117 river basins extracted from the ECRINS functional river basin districts (EcrAgg). The Ecrins river basin districts are delineated according to the hydrological thresholds and do not necessarily follow administrative boundaries. The main purpose of the data set is to display the EEA water accounts outputs at the river basin level.
The EU Bathing Waters Directive requires Member States to identify popular bathing places in fresh and coastal waters and monitor them for indicators of microbiological pollution (and other substances) throughout the bathing season which runs from May to September
