This dataset contains the location and administrative data for the largest industrial complexes in Europe, releases and transfers of regulated substances to all media, waste transfers reported under the European Pollutant Release and Transfer Register (E-PRTR) and as well as more detailed data on energy input and emissions for large combustion plants (reported under IED Art.72).
Waterbase is the generic name given to the EEA's databases on the status and quality of Europe's rivers, lakes, groundwater bodies and transitional, coastal and marine waters, on the quantity of Europe's water resources, and on the emissions to surface waters from point and diffuse sources of pollution.
The Floods Directive (FD), implemented in November 2007 addresses the rising threat of catastrophic and frequent floods in Europe due to socioeconomic development and climate change. Its purpose is to establish a framework for assessing and managing flood risks within the European Union, with the goal of reducing adverse impacts on human health, the environment, cultural heritage, and economic activity.
The EU Bathing Waters Directive requires Member States to identify popular bathing places in fresh and coastal waters and monitor them for indicators of microbiological pollution (and other substances) throughout the bathing season which runs from May to September
The WISE WFD protected areas data set contains the location of areas which have been designated as requiring special protection of their surface water and groundwater, or for the conservation of habitats and species directly depending on water, including economically significant aquatic species (e.g. shellfish). According to the Article 6 of the Water Framework Directive (WFD, Directive 2000/60/EC), Member States shall ensure the establishment of a register of all areas lying within each River Basin District which have been designated as requiring special protection under specific Community legislation for the protection of their surface water and groundwater, or for the conservation of habitats and species directly depending on water, including the protection of Natura 2000 sites and economically significant aquatic species (e.g. shellfish).
The dataset contains information on the European river basin districts, the river basin district sub-units, the surface water bodies and the groundwater bodies delineated for the 1st River Basin Management Plans (RBMP) under the Water Framework Directive (WFD) as well as the European monitoring sites used for the assessment of the status of the abovementioned surface water bodies and groundwater bodies. The dataset compiles the available spatial data related to the 1st RBMPs which were due in 2010 (hereafter WFD2010). See http://rod.eionet.europa.eu/obligations/521 for further information on the WFD2010 reporting.
The WISE WFD reference spatial datasets contain information on the European river basin districts, the river basin district sub-units, the surface water bodies and the groundwater bodies delineated for the River Basin Management Plans (RBMP) under the Water Framework Directive (WFD) as well as the monitoring sites located in surface water bodies and groundwater bodies. The dataset includes EU Member States, Norway and Iceland.
The dataset contains information on the European river basin districts, the river basin district sub-units, the surface water bodies and the groundwater bodies delineated for the 2nd River Basin Management Plans (RBMP) under the Water Framework Directive (WFD) as well as the European monitoring sites used for the assessment of the status of the above mentioned surface water bodies and groundwater bodies. The dataset compiles the available spatial data related to the 2nd RBMPs due in 2016 (hereafter WFD2016). See http://rod.eionet.europa.eu/obligations/715 for further information on the WFD2016 reporting.
This indicator shows concentrations of nitrate in groundwater bodies.
The dataset has been reported to the EEA under Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) 2010/75/EU Commission Implementing Decision 2018/1135 and the European Pollutant Release and Transfer Register (E-PRTR) Regulation (EC) No 166/2006 Commission Implementing Decision 2019/1741. The dataset brings together data formerly reported separately under E-PRTR Regulation Art.7 and under IED Art.72. Additional reporting requirements under the IED are also included. This metadata refers to the geospatial dataset representing the status of the EEA Industrial Reporting database as of 22 March 2022 (version 7). The release and emissions data cover the period 2007-2020 as result of the data reported under the new E-PRTR facilities, 2017-2020 for IED installations and WI/co-WIs, and 2016-2020 for LCPs. IMPORTANT NOTE: the reference version of the EEA industrial reporting database is the one provided as MS Access database (MDB) in: https://www.eea.europa.eu/data-and-maps/data/industrial-reporting-under-the-industrial-4. In this web page, a PDF document (EEA_Industrial_Reporting_Metadata_v7) is provided with the database structure and use information (also available for download through this catalogue). The geospatial file (Geopackage format) provided by the EEA geospatial catalogue reflects completely the content in the MDB file but it is NOT the reference version and should not be considered as such. However, in the transformation of MDB to Geopackage, some tables and attributes had to be renamed to accommodate the technical requirements of the Geopackage format, see README_renamedColumns.txt, which is provided with the geospatial file. United Kingdom is covered in the period from 2007 to 2020. Northern Ireland is covered from 2021. The E-PRTR database is updated annually as a minimum.
