The 12th Sternfahrt of the ElbeXtreme and MOSES projects took place in 2024 from September 02 to 13, within the area of the German Bight (North Sea). Its objective was to get a more systematic grid of sampling data by spatially integrated onboard sensors. Therefore, the MOSES-laboratory container was installed again. Water samples were taken from the surface with a rosette or via Niskin bottles. The first part of the cruise was conducted by the research vessel (RV) Ludwig Prandtl, starting on the 2nd of September on Heligoland. From there, the crew navigated towards Cuxhaven covering some stations from previous MOSES cruises. For the next days, the ship followed a rectangular track, shifting northward each day, heading towards Heligoland again. Due to strong winds, the sampling stations were reduced to three on the last day. On Heligoland the RV Mya II took over the laboratory container and other sampling equipment for the second part of the cruise. Persistent strong winds delayed the start of the cruise until September 11. Since most of the planned stations were already covered from the RV Ludwig Prandtl, the crew decided to expand the sampling area using a more systematic zig-zag line. With the return of Mya II in the afternoon of the 13th September 2024, the campaign was successfully finished.
Data collection of concentration dependent abnormal larval development of Crassostrea gigas during 24 h at 24°C and 48 h at 18°C for the trace metals copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), Cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb). Data were collected via microscopic observation. Data collection of concentration dependent mortality within a 24 h period at 18°C and 24°C for the D- larvae stage of Ostrea edulis and C. gigas for Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb. Data were collected via microscopic observation. All data were collected from February to April 2024 at IFREMER Bouin (La plateforme mollusques marins de Bouin) in France. Data includes the measured environmental concentrations (MEC) of the summer Cu concentration in the German Bight from 1986 to 2021 (MUDAB database, https://geoportal.bafg.de/MUDABAnwendung/), including sampling points coordinates, year of sampling and Cu concentration. Additionally the Hazard quotient (HQ) is provided by dividing the MEC with the predicted no effect concentration (PNEC), defined as EC10 estimates from C. gigas embryos exposed for 48 h at 18°C and LC10 estimates from C. gigas larvae exposed for 24 h at 24°C, divided by an assessment factor (AF) of 5.

Additional Information: Sign Convention: The sign convention follows „elevation, positive up“ throughout the entire grid, including areas below chart datum. Domain Uniformity: The vertical reference system is uniform across the entire model domain (German Bight, the Ems, Weser, and Elbe estuaries). Shapefile Reference: The two accompanying shapefiles do not contain a vertical reference system because they do not include z-values.
During the RV Heincke cruise HE650 in the German Bight, the autonomous surface vehicle HALOBATES was deployed to obtain high-resolution measurements of key climate variables, including sea surface temperature (SST) and salinity (SSS). The platform sampled the upper ocean across five depths, extending from the near-surface layer (NSL; approximately 30–100 cm depth) to the sea-surface microlayer (SML), which occupies the uppermost millimetres of the ocean. Temperature and conductivity, from which salinity was derived, were measured using conductivity–temperature–depth (CTD) sensors integrated into HALOBATES' flow-through system. Additional temperature sensors mounted beneath the catamaran provided in situ observations at six NSL depths. Discrete water samples were used to calibrate the salinity measurements and account for potential sensor offsets. Meteorological conditions were simultaneously monitored using two data loggers equipped with meteorological stations installed on the catamaran. HALOBATES operated continuously during the deployment on 6th November 2024.

During the RV Heincke cruise HE626/2 in the German Bight, the autonomous surface vehicle HALOBATES was deployed to obtain high-resolution measurements of key climate variables, including sea surface temperature (SST) and salinity (SSS). The platform sampled the upper ocean across seven depths, with approximately 10 cm vertical spacing, extending from the near-surface layer (NSL; approximately 30–100 cm depth) to the sea-surface microlayer (SML), which occupies the uppermost millimetres of the ocean. Temperature and conductivity, from which salinity was derived, were measured using conductivity–temperature–depth (CTD) sensors integrated into HALOBATES' flow-through system. Discrete water samples were used to calibrate the salinity measurements and account for potential sensor offsets. Meteorological conditions were simultaneously monitored using two data loggers equipped with meteorological stations installed on the catamaran.
