Dieses Projekt ist vorerst nur geplant. Auf einer Veranstaltung am 13. Juli 2009 in München haben zwölf europäische Unternehmen zusammen mit der DESERTEC Foundation ein Memorandum of Understanding zur Gründung einer Desertec Industrial Initiative Planungsgesellschaft (DII) unterzeichnet. Die DII Planungsgesellschaft soll bis zum 31. Oktober 2009 als GmbH nach deutschem Recht gegründet werden. Ziel dieser Initiative ist die Analyse und Entwicklung von technischen, ökonomischen, politischen, gesellschaftlichen und ökologischen Rahmenbedingungen zur CO2-freien Energieerzeugung in den Wüsten Nordafrikas. Dieses von der TREC-Initiative des Club of Rome entwickelte DESERTEC-Konzept beschreibt die Perspektiven einer nachhaltigen Stromversorgung für alle Regionen der Welt mit Zugang zum Energiepotenzial von Wüsten. Die Gründungsunternehmen der DII, deren regionaler Fokus auf Europa, dem Nahen Osten und Nordafrika (MENA) liegt, werden sein: ABB, ABENGOA Solar, Cevital, Deutsche Bank, E.ON, HSH Nordbank, MAN Solar Millennium, Münchener Rück, M+W Zander, RWE, SCHOTT Solar, SIEMENS. Zu den wesentlichen Zielen der DII gehören auch die Erarbeitung konkreter Geschäftspläne und darauf aufbauender Finanzierungskonzepte sowie der Anstoß zu industriellen Vorbereitungen zum Bau einer Vielzahl vernetzter und über die MENA-Region verteilter solarthermischer Kraftwerke. Diese Energiequellen sollen durch ein internationales verlustarmes Hochspannungsgleichstromleitungsnetz (HGÜ) verbunden werden mit anderen regenerativen Energieerzeugern von Island bis Arabien. Es wird angestrebt, einen Anteil von rund 15 Prozent des Strombedarfs von Europa und einen erheblichen Anteil des Strombedarfs für die Erzeugerländer zu produzieren. Alle Tätigkeiten der DII sind darauf ausgerichtet, umsetzungsfähige Investitionspläne innerhalb von drei Jahren nach Gründung zu erstellen.

Altlastenbedingte Bodenverunreinigungen koennen je nach Art und Ausmass zu erheblichen Wertminderungen fuehren. Bislang sind nur wenige Ansaetze zur operationalen, d.h. ebenso schnell-praktikablen und zuverlaessigen wie auch kostenguenstig-realistischen Einschaetzung der moeglichen Reduzierung des Grundstueckwertes entwickelt worden. In Zusammenarbeit mit in der Praxis taetigen Ingenierbueros in Deutschland und den Niederlanden wurde ein Verfahrensweg entwickelt, der eine praxisgerechte Einschaetzung der finanziellen Ansaetze bei der potentiellen Grundstuecksbeleihung erlaubt.

The intra-mountain Baza Basin in Southern Spain is the largest of the Late Neogene continental basins of the Betic Cordillera. It provides an up to 2.5 km thick archive of lacustrine and ancillary continental deposits from the Late Miocene to Middle Pleistocene. Infilling of the Baza Basin proceeded mainly by deposition of fine-grained deposits arranged in concentric facies belts in a lake complex. The expansion and contraction of these nested paleoenvironments serve as highly sensitive indicators of climate change which makes the Baza Basin a unique site for an integrated paleoclimate-oriented study of the last 7Ma of SE Europe. The planned LARSEI drilling project (LAcustrine Record of SE Iberia; submitted pre-proposal to ICDP) proposes to drill the Baza evaporitic basin in order to establish a realistic paleo-climatic record through the final Neogene (including the entire Pliocene) that very likely reflects regional events in the western Mediterranean as well as global climate milestones. Prerequisite for the drilling activities is the profound knowledge of the basin structure and local zones of neo-tectonic deformation, mainly related to the Baza fault bounding the basin to the West. We propose to aquire seismic multichannel profiles providing high-resolution images of the basin and related structural units (i.e. faults). The results of these measurements will both help to guide the drilling activities (including drilling site selection; presite study) and to better understand the structure and evolution of the Baza basin.
