Das Projekt "Umweltstrategie fuer das Hotelgewerbe auf Zypern" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Universität Trier, European Association for Environmental Management Education - Focal Point Trier -, Europäisches Diplom in Umweltwissenschaften durchgeführt. Within the framework of this study, the importance of an environmental action plan for the hotel sector in Cyprus is analysed. First, the need for an environmental action plan is analysed through current developments in the sector world-wide, the area of the Mediterranean and guidelines set by the EU. Environmental issues concerning tourist development have been gaining increasing attention due to changing values and customer expectations (avoiding areas with serious environmental problems), to decrease in tourist inflows and to an increase in environmental awareness. Environmental factors are of particular importance in the Mediterranean area, the most popular tourist destination in the world, since over construction, lack of planning, excessive uses of natural resources had a negative impact on both tourist development and life quality for the locals. Guidelines set by the EU emphasize the need for a dean environment in order to achieve the goal of sustainable tourism. Through a general analysis of tourism development in Cyprus, it seems that the area of the environment has not been taken sufficiently into consideration. The conduction of a survey was found to be necessary in order to assess what the hotel sector has done for the environment and what they are willing to do. An action plan concerning the various steps which need to be taken in order to improve environmental performance in the hotel sector are proposed.
Das Projekt "Datenaufbereitung und Klimatologische Analyse Mittelmeerregion (Beitrag zum PIK-Kernprojekt CLIMAGHS)" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Universität Frankfurt, Fachbereich 11 Geowissenschaften,Geographie, Institut für Meteorologie und Geophysik, Arbeitsgruppe Meteorologische Umweltforschung,Klimatologie durchgeführt. Dieses auf Werkvertragsbasis durchgefuehrte Projekt hat zum Ziel, fuer die wichtigsten Klimaelemente und einen einheitlichen aktuellen Zeitraum (1951-1993) eine statistisch-klimatologische Analyse durchzufuehren und als Bericht sowie Datensatz dem Potsdam-Institut fuer Klimafolgenforschung eV (PIK) zur weiteren Auswertung und Interpretation zu uebergeben. Schwerpunkte dieser Arbeit sind Ergaenzung, Plausibilitaets- und Homogenitaetspruefung der verwendeten Klimadaten-Zeitreihen sowie zeitlich-raeumlich differenzierte Trendanalysen und Extremwertbeschreibung. Soweit moeglich, werden die Ergebnisse der Trendanalysen auch in Kartenform dargestellt (unter Anwendung raeumlicher Extrapolationstechniken). Die Weiterverarbeitung und Berichterstattung erfolgt durch das PIK im Rahmen des dortigen Kernprojektes 'CLIMAGHS', das eine Bewertung des Klimas bzw der Klimaaenderungen hinsichtlich soziooekonomischer Folgen in der Region Mittelmeerregion/Nordafrika (Maghreb-Staaten) zum Inhalt hat (Climate and Global Change Impact on the Environment and Society of the Mediterranean and Maghreb States).
