Clearance rates of Gigantidas childressi filtering phytoplankton

Clearance rates of two batches (1 and 2) of cultured G. childressi mussels filtering phytoplankton. Batch 1 mussels ('small': 51 ± 3 mm SD, 'large': 77 ± 4 mm SD) received either Rhodomonas or Nannochloropsis cells. Batch 2 mussels from were cultured under different nutritional treatments (CH4: 'M', algae + CH4: MA', only algae: 'A'). The measurement of clearance rates of batch 2 G. childressi cultured in the 'A' treatment (without CH4 supply) was conducted twice: once while mussels were placed in CH4-enriched seawater, and, subsequently, once without CH4.

Bioassays quantifying the lytic capabilities of supernatants from Alexandrium pseudogonyaulax and Alexandrium monilatum on the cryptophyte Rhodomona salina

The cryptophyte Rhodomonas salina was subjected to various concentrations of supernatants of Alexandrium (A. pseudogonyaulax, A. monilatum) for 3 or 24 h. Then, the percentage of intact R. salina cells was quantified microscopically. This dataset comprises all cell counts from the R. salina bioassays used to construct dose-response curves. The experiments were carried out between November 9, 2023 and March 26, 2024 in the laboratories at the Alfred-Wegener-Institute in Bremerhaven, Germany.
