The dataset contains information on the European river basin districts, the river basin district sub-units, the surface water bodies and the groundwater bodies delineated for the 1st River Basin Management Plans (RBMP) under the Water Framework Directive (WFD) as well as the European monitoring sites used for the assessment of the status of the abovementioned surface water bodies and groundwater bodies. This data set is available only for internal use of the European Commission and the European Environment Agency. This data set contains current nitrogen (N) and critical phosphorus (P) concentrations and their exceedances of the current and required Nitrogen Use Efficiencies (NUE) in Europe. This data set has been compiled by the European Topic Centre on Urban, Land and Soil Systems (ETC/ULS) in the context of a study on metal and nutrient dynamics where the fate and dynamics of the most abundant heavy metals and nutrients in agricultural soils were investigated. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impacts of agricultural intensification in Europe, and to understand its environmental impact.

Climatic suitability for the transmission of chikungunya in Europe (1951-2021), Apr 2023

This metadata refer to the dataset presenting the annual change in the basic reproduction number (R0) for chikungunya transmission in the period 1951-2021. The basic reproduction number of chikungunya from Aedes mosquitos is calculated using a model to capture the influence of temperature and rainfall on mosquito vectorial capacity and mosquito abundance, and overlaying it with human population density data to estimate the R0 (i.e., the expected number of secondary infections resulting from one infected person).

WARNING: this dataset is outdated and we suggest using the much higher resolution (90m, 30m (public) and 10 m (restricted)) Copernicus DEM - Global and European Digital Elevation Model accessible at https://doi.org/10.5270/ESA-c5d3d65. The data is made using the global digital elevation model (DEM) derived from GTOPO30. Note that the values in the file are not the original elevation data. The data has been processed to create an image for presentation purposes streching a predefined colour template over the derived values. GTOPO30 is a digital elevation model for the world, developed by United States Geological Survey (USGS). It has a 30-arc second resolution (approximately 1 km)
