Ammonium data from the Boknis Eck time series station 1979 to 2023

The dataset was acquired at the time-series station Boknis Eck (54.5°N and 10.0°E) at six standard depths (1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 m). The dataset contains data for ammonium (sampled with a rosette sampler and measured using a QuAAtro Continuous Segmented Flow Analyzer). The data are from 1979 to 2023.

A shallow subtidal area in the northern Wadden Sea was monitored for sediment parameters and macrobenthic fauna using stratified random sampling of a grid of 33 sampling positions. Samples were collected with a Reineck-type box-corer of 0.02 m² surface area. Granulometric sediment composition was analysed from a sub-sample of each box-core using a diffraction laser particle-size analyser. Macrobenthos (sieved through 1 mm square meshes and fixed in buffered formalin solution) was counted, identified to species level, and the size of hard-shelled individuals measured. The amount of shell detritus was quantified as wet-weight in the benthos samples. This dataset contains the results from the sampling events in 2018.

In preparation for a forthcoming monitoring project, a shallow subtidal area in the northern Wadden Sea was studied for macrozoobenthos >1 mm sieve size. Using a Reineck-type box-corer of 0.02 m² surface area, abundance and specific composition were evaluated from a sampling grid of 21 positions with two replicates each. Temporarily, sampling was repeated 9 times. Analyses of spatial and temporal variability revealed that within-site variability was far lower than between-site variability. As a consequence, the later monitoring project was based on a higher number of study sites at the cost of within-site replication.
