DIGSTER - Map and Go (Digital Satellite Based Terrain Model) - User Requirements

The project DIGSTER - Map and Go (Digital Based Terrain Mapping) aims at the technical aspects of digital terrrain mapping. For many questions in administration, planning and expertise terrrain mappings are indispensable. The whole process starting with the data acquisition in the field and ending with map products will be digitally performed by the system. Therefore, a platform appropriate for the use in the field (PDA) is combined with technologies from the disciplines of satellite navigation, remote sensing, communication, and mobile geoinformation systems. For DIGSTER a lot of practical applications already exist in connection with policies and directives on the national and also European level.

Schwerpunktprogramm (SPP) 1374: Biodiversitäts-Exploratorien; Exploratories for Long-Term and Large-Scale Biodiversity Research (Biodiversity Exploratories), Sub project: Core Projekt 4 - Exploratories for large-scale and long-term functional biodiversity research - zentrales Datenmanagement

The importance of data and their re-use in synthesis and long-term studies is very well acknowledged in the Biodiversity Exploratories. A data policy was already adopted at the start of the project and a central database was implemented at the beginning of the first phase. The early provision of the database and a consistent observance and incorporation of user needs and requirements have resulted in high acceptance. The central data management provides an environment for data interchange and simple data re-use, stimulating and facilitating synthesis. The central database also provides the IT- infrastructure for efficient field resource management needed by the local management teams and the Biodiversity Exploratory Office, as well as a tool to provide information about species occurrence to landowners and a tool to compute the Land Use Intensity Index, LUI, for grasslands, a parameter that is used by many groups. The database secures the interpretability of data and provides the means for data quality control. It functions both as a work-in-progress storage and as a temporary archive. This proposal shall secure the continuation of this strong and, for the overall success of the Exploratories, essential work. In addition to continued provisioning of the infrastructure and user support (in particular with respect to synthesis) the work in the new funding period will focus on the following topcis: development of further research supporting tools, development of features for scientific communication, ensuring FAIRness of data and the repository itself.

Forschergruppe (FOR) 1525: INUIT - Ice Nuclei research UnIT, Central Coordination and Administration of the INUIT research unit

Funds for the central coordination of the research unit 'INUIT' (Ice Nucleation research UnIT) are requested within this proposal. The project serves the coordination and administration of the research unit as well as the promotion of cooperation and communication among the individual scientific projects of the unit. An annual status seminar is organized and conducted within this project. The funds for measures to promote gender equality are managed and measures for training of young researchers are coordinated. Within the project special sessions at international conferences or publication of special issues are initiated. A central data base to store and provide the data from all the various field and laboratory activities to all members of the research unit is maintained within the project. A comprehensive inter-comparison of the results of the ice nucleating properties of the common set of test aerosols studied by the various methods is conducted. An INUIT web page is set up and maintained. To support the INUIT spokesperson in conducting these tasks, staffing for a halftime position of a scientific administrator is applied for.

Dieses Koordinatorprojekt unterstützt die Koordinatorin und das steering committee bei der wissenschaftlichen Ausrichtung, der Organisation und der Verwaltung des Schwerpunktprogrammes (SPP) 1704. Sein Hauptziel ist es, das Zusammenspiel von trait Diversität und ökologischen Dynamiken in multitrophischen mikrobiellen planktischen oder Biofilm-assoziierten Lebensgemeinschaften durch die Kombination von Experimenten, Freilanduntersuchungen und mathematische Modelle zu untersuchen. Das Koordinatorprojekt unterstützt die interdisziplinäre Kooperation, wissenschaftliche Synergien und die Bildung von Netzwerken innerhalb des SPP 1704 sowie seine internationale Sichtbarkeit, die Entwicklung und Pflege einer informativen Homepage einschließlich einer Literaturdatenbank und eines Intranet für den intensiven Informationsaustausch innerhalb des SPP 1704. Es ist verantwortlich für die Organisation der Jahrestreffen und der internationalen Konferenzen sowie der Workshops und Summer Schools des SPP 1704 und der Förderung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses und der Gleichstellung. Es unterstützt die internationalen Gäste des SPP 1704 und ist verantwortlich für die Verwaltung von Reisemitteln und Publikationskosten innerhalb des SPP 1704.
