The dataset contains information on the European river basin districts, the river basin district sub-units, the surface water bodies and the groundwater bodies delineated for the 1st River Basin Management Plans (RBMP) under the Water Framework Directive (WFD) as well as the European monitoring sites used for the assessment of the status of the abovementioned surface water bodies and groundwater bodies. This data set is available only for internal use of the European Commission and the European Environment Agency. Floods Reference Spatial Datasets reported under Floods Directive - version 3.0, Mar. 2025

The Floods Directive (FD) was adopted in 2007 (https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=celex:32007L0060). The purpose of the FD is to establish a framework for the assessment and management of flood risks, aiming at the reduction of the adverse consequences for human health, the environment, cultural heritage and economic activity associated with floods in the European Union. ‘Flood’ means the temporary covering by water of land not normally covered by water. This shall include floods from rivers, mountain torrents, Mediterranean ephemeral water courses, and floods from the sea in coastal areas, and may exclude floods from sewerage systems. This reference spatial dataset, reported under the Floods Directive, includes the areas of potential significant flood risk (APSFR), as they were lastly reported by the Member States to the European Commission, and the Units of Management (UoM).

GISCO - Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics 2021 (NUTS 2021), May 2021

The 'GISCO NUTS 2021' data set represents the NUTS 2021 regulation and statistical regions by means of multipart polygon, polyline and point topology. The NUTS geographical information is completed by attribute tables and a set of cartographic help lines to better visualize multipart polygonal regions. The NUTS nomenclature is a hierarchical classification of statistical regions defined by Eurostat. The NUTS classification subdivides the EU economic territory into 3 statistical levels. The NUTS 2021 classification has been established through the Commission Delegated Regulation 2019/1755, which entered into force on 8th August 2019 and applies from 1st January 2021. A non official NUTS-like classification has been defined for the EFTA countries and the candidate countries. At present, six scale ranges (100K, 1M, 3M, 10M and 20M, 60M) are maintained in the GISCO geodatabase. The polygon and boundary classes delineate the regions, while the points provide an anchor for each region. Associated tables contain basic information such as the name of the region. The public data set will be available at 1M, 3M, 10M, 20M, 60M, while the full data set at 100K is restricted. The data set covers EU Member States, EFTA countries, EU candidate countries and the UK. Following the departure of the UK from the European Union, the UK is no longer flagged as an EU Member State but retains its place in the NUTS and statistical regions data set. This dataset (NUTS_2021) is derived from the EuroBoundary Map 2020 (EBM2020) from Eurogeographics as well as GISCO NUTS 2016 (from Türkiye). The list of NUTS2021 codes including changes with respect to NUTS2016 is available on https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/documents/345175/629341/NUTS2021.xlsx. Schwerpunktprogramm (SPP) 1158: Antarctic Research with Comparable Investigations in Arctic Sea Ice Areas; Bereich Infrastruktur - Antarktisforschung mit vergleichenden Untersuchungen in arktischen Eisgebieten, COALA – Kontinuierliche Beobachtungen von Aerosol-Wolken-Interaktion in der Antarktis

Das unvollständige Verständnis der Wechselwirkung von Aerosolpartikeln mit Strahlung, Wolken und Niederschlag ist eine Schlüsselfrage der Atmosphärenforschung. Detaillierte Beobachtungen sind erforderlich, um die komplexen Zusammenhänge zwischen den beteiligten Prozessen zu erfassen. Dies gilt insbesondere für die abgelegene Region der Antarktis, wo bodengestützte, vertikal aufgelöste Langzeitbeobachtungen von Aerosol, Wolken und Niederschlag selten sind und Satellitenbeobachtungen technischen Beschränkungen unterliegen. Um die Messlücke mit modernsten Beobachtungen zu schließen, wird TROPOS die Messplattform OCEANET-Atmosphere zwischen den Südsommern 2022/23 und 2023/24 an der Station Neumayer III (70,67°S, 8,27°W) einsetzen. OCEANET-Atmosphere ist ein autonomer, polar-erprobter, modifizierter 20-Fuss-Messcontainer, der erst kürzlich erfolgreich während MOSAiC (Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate) eingesetzt wurde. Die Instrumentierung während COALA umfasst ein Mehrwellenlängen-Polarisations- und ein Doppler-Lidar, ein 35-GHz-Wolkenradar, ein Mikrowellenradiometer sowie jeweils ein 1-d und 2-d-Niederschlags-Disdrometer. OCEANET ist die einzige polare Einzelcontainer-Plattform, die mit Mehrwellenlängen-Lidar, Radar und Mikrowellenradiometer Wolken und Niederschlag sowie mit Doppler-Lidar und -Radar turbulente Luftbewegungen in Wolken an verschiedenen Messstandorten beobachten kann.Die zeitliche und vertikale Auflösung des gewonnenen Datensatzes wird in der Größenordnung von 30 s (2 s für Vertikalgeschwindigkeitsbeobachtungen) und 30 m liegen. COALA ist ein 3-Jahres-Projekt. Ein Postdoktorand wird für den Einsatz von OCEANET-Atmosphere bei Neumayer III und die Datenanalyse verantwortlich sein und dabei von Experten am TROPOS unterstützt. Die Beobachtungen werden in erster Linie dazu dienen, die Schlüsselhypothese von COALA zu untersuchen, dass Aerosol aus dem Südlichen Ozean, den mittleren Breiten und den Subtropen der südlichen Hemisphäre in die Antarktis transportiert wird, wo es die Bildung und Entwicklung von Wolken und Niederschlag beeinflusst. Die Arbeiten konzentrieren sich auf (1) die Untersuchung des Ursprungs, der Häufigkeit und der Eigenschaften des Aerosols über der Station Neumayer III, (2) die Untersuchung des Einflusses von Oberflächen- und Grenzschicht-Kopplungseffekten auf die Eigenschaften und die Entwicklung von tiefen Wolken, (3) die Untersuchung des Beitrags von Dynamik (orographische Wellen), Aerosol und Meteorologie zur Verteilung der Eis- und Flüssigphase in Wolken über Neumayer III, (4) zur Untersuchung der vertikalen Struktur von Wolken und ihrer Beziehung zur Niederschlagsbildung und (5) zur Bewertung regionaler Kontraste in den Eigenschaften von Aerosolen und Wolken und den damit verbundenen Aerosol-Wolken-Wechselwirkungsprozessen, indem die Neumayer-III-Beobachtungen von vorhandenen Datensätzen aus Südchile, Zypern, Deutschland und der Arktis kontrastiert werden.

NECPR: Additional Reporting Obligations in the area of Energy Efficiency (Annex XVII) dataset, 2023

Additional reporting obligations in the area of energy efficiency is a dataset under the National Energy and Climate Progress Reports (NECPRs), which is reported every second year (starting in 2023). The dataset provides additional information on energy efficiency and the role of buildings (public and nearly-zero energy buildings). The EEA collects and quality checks this data. This reporting obligation comes from the Governance Regulation 2018/1999, Implementing Regulation 2022/2299 (Annex XVII).

Schwerpunktprogramm (SPP) 2238: Dynamik der Erzmetallanreicherung, Teilprojekt: Ultramafisch-gebunde Massensulfidlagerstätten: ein mehrskaliger und systematischer Ansatz

Der Weg zu einer Gesellschaft mit geringem Kohlendioxidemission-Ausstoß in Europa erhöht unseren Bedarf an mineralischen Rohstoffen drastisch und erfordert eine zuverlässige und nachhaltige Versorgung mit mineralischen Ressourcen. Europa hat eine lange Bergbautradition, sodass es schwieriger ist neue klassische Erzvorkommen zu entdecken. Unkonventionelle Erzlagerstätten sind daher im Fokus der Exploration, um eine Sicherung der benötigten Rohstoffe zu gewährleisten. Darunter befinden sich ultramafische vulkanogene Massivsulfidlagerstätten (UM-VMS), die mit Au, Ag, Co, Cu und Ni angereichert sind. Diese Lagerstätten sind von langsam-spreizenden Mittelozeanischen Rücken (MOR) bekannt, wo sie sich im Allgemeinen entlang von Abscherungsflächen (detachment faults) bilden. Derzeit sind jedoch nur wenige UM-VMS-Lagerstätten an Land entdeckt worden. Diese geringe Anzahl ist hauptsächlich auf das Fehlen moderner und kohärenter Genese- und Explorations-Modelle zurückzuführen. Jüngste Arbeiten heben hervor, dass sich UM-VMS-Lagerstätten, zusätzlich zu MOR, in komplexeren tektonischen Umgebungen bilden als bisher angenommen, wie beispielsweise Ozean-Kontinent-Übergänge (OCT) und Supra-Subduktionszonen (SSZ). In diesem Projekt planen wir die Entwicklung von Genese- und Explorations-Modellen durch die Verwendung eines integrierten, mehrskaligen und systematischen Ansatzes (mineral systems approach), in verschiedenen tektonischen Umgebungen wie dem Troodos-Ophioliten (Zypern, SSZ) und dem Outokumpu-Ophioliten (Finnland, metamorphisierte OCT). Die Schwerpunkte dieses Projektes liegen in der Lokation der Quelle der Metalle und Fluide, der Identifizierung der Wegsamkeiten von Fluiden, der Ausfällungsmechanismen von Metallen und der Erhaltung der Erze. Diese Untersuchungen werden es ermöglichen, die wichtigsten Parameter zu bestimmen, die zur Bildung von Erzlagerstätten führen, und letztendlich dazu beitragen, neue Lagerstätten an Land und auf dem Meeresboden zu entdecken, wie beispielsweise im deutschen INDEX-Gebiet. Alle untersuchten Gebiete liegen innerhalb Europas und fördern die Charakterisierung der Erzlagerstätten in oder in der Nähe der Europäischen Union.

The Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive concerns the collection, treatment and discharge of urban waste water and the treatment and discharge of waste water from certain industrial sectors. The objective of the Directive is to protect the environment from the adverse effects of the above mentioned waste water discharges. This series contains time series of spatial and tabular data covering Agglomerations, Discharge Points, and Treatment Plants.

Copernicus National Boundary Layer with 250 m buffer, version 3, Jan. 2019

For the provision of land monitoring services within COPERNICUS, a consistent, stable, sufficiently detailed boundary layer is required at EEA, which provides a “land mask” for the area that needs to be monitored. This metadata refers to the National Boundary layer both in vector formats (GDB, SHP) and in raster format (TIFF) at 10, 20 and 100m resolution, of each of the EEA member and cooperating countries as well as the United Kingdom (former EEA39). This is a product derived from the EEA 39 Border Expert product, generalised to a scale of about 1:1 000 000 by applying a buffer of 250m and selecting the outline. Each country boundary has been projected to its respective national system(s), which are specified together with the EEA. The Border Expert product is based on the EU-Hydro Coastline Version 3 from EEA, the EEA coastline for analysis Version 2, the EBM GISCO Hybrid Layer from EEA, the EuroGeographics EuroBoundary Map Version 12, the “Water and Wetness High Resolution Layer 2015” from EEA and the JRC-Global Surface Water Occurrence layer. The production of this Border Product was coordinated by the European Environment Agency in the frame of the EU Copernicus programme.
