Innovations are fundamental for a company's survival and an economy's sucess. In industry they are carried out through R- and D-projects. Even though many researchers have examined the dynamics of technological change and innovations few efforts have been made - to examine the link between innovations and ecology - to connect innovations with project selection processes and decision mechanisms in R and D. The aim of the IIIBE-Project is to model the relationship between innovation, economy and ecology. The research question asks which factors trigger during the R and D project selection process ecology-friendly industrial innovations. From the results rules of thumb for companies or even politicians can be derived to push innovations in a direction beneficial for CO2 reduction. Leading Questions: What is the 'state-of-the-art' in environmentally oriented behaviour in Swiss companies? How to trigger ecological innovations in an uncertain environment? How can economical and ecological aspects be joined/combined? How can cost reductions be used as an ecological tool?
