This is the metadata for the annual national emissions of major air pollutants reported by EU Member States under the National Emission Reduction Commitments (NEC) Directive. The dataset covers 1980–2024 and includes emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx), ammonia (NH₃), sulphur dioxide (SO₂), non-methane volatile organic compounds (NMVOCs), and fine particulate matter (PM₂.₅). It is used to monitor progress towards national and EU air pollution reduction targets.
Welcome to the German Informative Inventory Report 2026 (IIR 2026)! This report covers the preparation, maintenance, and improvement of the German air pollutant emission inventory. Emission estimates are provided for the time series from 1990 to 2024 , with exceptions for fine particulate matter with aerodynamic diameters of ≤2.5µm (PM 2.5 ) or ≤10µm (PM 10 ) respectively with data as of 1995 , and black carbon (BC) with data as of 2000 . The report was produced by the national co-ordination agency (single entity) for the National System of Emissions Inventories (Nationales Systems Emissionsinventare; NaSE), sited within the German Federal Environmental Agency (UBA). Information on agriculture, changes in land use and forestry was provided by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) and the Johann Heinrich von Thünen-Institut, Federal Research Institute for Rural Areas, Forestry and Fisheries, Institute of Agricultural Climate Research (vTI - AK). More information is available on the emission web site of the German Environment Agency (UBA). Data on approximated greenhouse gas emissions and removals of the EU, EU Member States, EEA Member countries and Contracting Parties. This data set reflects the GHG inventories as reported under the EU Governance Regulation. The Governance of the Energy Union and Climate Action Regulation and its two Implementing Regulations (EU) 2020/1208 and (EU) 2022/2299 cover the EU Member States and Iceland and Norway. The adapted Governance Regulation as incorporated and adapted by the Ministerial Council Decision 2021/14/MC-EnC of 30 November 2021 and its two Implementing Regulations, Implementing Regulation (EU) 2020/1208, included and incorporated by the previous mentioned Ministerial Council decision and (EU) 2022/2299 Implementing Regulation, as adapted and adopted in Decision of the Permanent High Level Group of the Energy Community No 2024/01/PHLG-EnC covers the Contracting Parties of the Energy Community.
